Owensboro Catholic's usually-dominant pitching crew will be looking to make up for Monday's struggle, when Madisonville-North Hopkins hitters got past them. The Aces fell just short of the Maroons by a score of 11-10 on Monday. The Aces' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Owensboro Catholic got a good showing from Lane Hundley, who tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Hundley has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Brady Atwell was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Jake Murphy was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Breckinridge County, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They came out on top against Owensboro by a score of 4-1 on Monday.
Noah Spence looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Harper Lucas, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Leland Board, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.
Breckinridge County has been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-9 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Owensboro Catholic, their defeat dropped their record down to 17-12.
