The Smoky Hill Buffaloes have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three matches by 23 points or more this season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Wednesday as they easily beat South Medford 78-45 on the road. That 78-45 margin sets a new team best for Smoky Hill this season.
Smoky Hill found their leader in underclassman Carter Basquez, who scored 20 points along with five rebounds and four steals. Those 20 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Kevin Sylla, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds.
Smoky Hill is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. As for South Medford, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-3.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Smoky Hill will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on DSST: Green Valley Ranch at 5:30 p.m. on January 5, 2024. DSST: Green Valley Ranch will be coming into the match with an undefeated record on the line. South Medford will be home for the holidays to greet Benson Tech at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
