Berthoud came into Thursday's matchup looking for another win against Coronado, but Thomas Buckmiller wouldn't allow it. The Cougars enjoyed a cozy 40-22 victory over the Spartans on Thursday for which the team can thank Buckmiller, who threw for 309 yards and three TDs while completing 73.9% of his passes, and also punched in a pair of scores on the ground. Buckmiller is crushing it when it comes to passing touchdowns: he's passed for at least three every time he's taken the field this season.

Coronado's leading receiver Lyrik Smith was Buckmiller's top target yet again, picking up 137 receiving yards and one touchdown. Smith showed off some serious burst, cutting upfield on a catch for 63 yards.

Coronado didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Brayden Taylor and Vaughn Miller.

Despite the loss, Berthoud still got an impressive performance from Jayce Newbill, who picked up 115 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Coronado now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Berthoud, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-2.

Coronado will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Pueblo County at 7:00 p.m. on October 10. The Cougars will need to watch out since the Hornets have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season. As for Berthoud, they will head out on the road to take on Wellington at 6:30 p.m. on October 3. The contest will give the Spartans their first taste of in-conference action this season.
