The Early Longhorns will head out on the road to take on the Comanche Indians at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Early has 11 straight victories, Comanche has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Tuesday, Early made easy work of Peaster and carried off a 17-8 win. Considering the Longhorns have won 15 matchups by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Kyleigh Caperton was a standout: she went 1-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Jamie Vassar, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Eastland hit Comanche with a five-run first inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Indians came up short against the Mavericks, falling 11-1. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Indians couldn't push the score so high this time.
Maeley Evans was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she didn't allow a single earned run over 4.2 innings pitched.
At the plate, Comanche saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Emily Sierra, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI. Sierra has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.
Comanche's loss dropped their record down to 3-17. As for Early, their victory bumped their record up to 16-4.
Wednesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Early has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .535. However, it's not like Comanche struggles in that department as they've averaged .481. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Early's way against Comanche when the teams last played back in March, as Early made off with a 9-2 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Longhorns since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
