Chaparral is 8-1 against Castle View since January of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Chaparral Wolverines will stay at home for another game and welcome the Castle View Sabercats at 7:00 p.m. on January 16th. Castle View took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Chaparral, who comes in off a win.
Last Friday, Chaparral faced Regis Jesuit in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Chaparral came out on top against Regis Jesuit by a score of 61-53.
Gavin Carter was his usual excellent self, scoring 22 points along with six assists and two steals. Christian Williams was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Castle View unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Friday. They took a 63-50 hit to the loss column at the hands of Mountain Vista. While losing is never fun, Castle View can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 48th, while Mountain Vista is ranked seventh).
Castle View's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Evan Mckean, who scored 24 points along with two steals, and Vitorio Dante who scored 17 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Dante hasn't dropped below 15points for three straight games.
Castle View struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Mountain Vista pulled down 11 offensive rebounds.
Chaparral has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. As for Castle View, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-4.
Keep an eye on the arc in Tuesday's match: Chaparral have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 5 threes per game. It's a different story for Castle View, though, as they've been averaging only 5.4 threes per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Chaparral came up short against Castle View in their previous meeting back in January of 2023, falling 62-55. Thankfully for Chaparral, Owen Clarke (who scored 21 points along with five rebounds and three steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
