The Sand Rock Wildcats and the Fyffe Red Devils will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 23rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Sand Rock focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight on Saturday.
Sand Rock unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak. They lost to Spring Garden on the road by a decisive 64-46 margin. While losing is never fun, Sand Rock can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 87th, while Spring Garden is ranked 14th).
Despite the defeat, Sand Rock had strong showings from Kennedy Henderson, who scored ten points along with five rebounds, and Katelyn St.clair, who scored 14 points. Another player making a difference was Zoey Handy, who scored seven points along with six rebounds.
Fyffe suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Friday. They had to suffer through a rough 74-26 loss at the hands of Plainview. Fyffe has struggled against Plainview recently, as their match on Friday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Sand Rock's record is now 17-7. Fyffe's record now sits at 14-10.
Everything came up roses for Sand Rock against Fyffe in their previous meeting two weeks ago as the squad secured a 76-31 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Sand Rock since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
