If the MaxPreps state rankings hold true, the near future looks bright for Newport. They will challenge Corning on the road at 7:00 PM on Friday. Corning will need to watch out since Newport have now posted big point totals in their last six contests.
Newport might be getting used to good results now that the squad has six wins in a row. They were fully in charge last Friday, breezing past Manila 56-6. Newport found Newport's leader in underclassman sophomore Tharon Davis, who rushed for 173 yards and 3 touchdowns. Davis has been a consistent playmaker for Newport as this was the 7th good game in a row from him.
Meanwhile, things haven't been easy for Corning, and their match last Friday only extended their streak of losses to seven. They were dealt a punishing 0-49 loss at the hands of Walnut Ridge. Corning were in a tough position by the half, with the score sitting at 0-35.
Newport simply couldn't be stopped the last time the two teams met, as they easily beat Corning 64-0. Will Newport repeat their success, or does Corning have a better game plan this time around ? We'll find out soon enough.
