South Adams and Norwell are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Starfires will square off against the Knights at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. South Adams will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
On Saturday, South Adams was able to grind out a solid victory over Eastbrook, taking the game 6-3.
Addie Baker was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Baker was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with one run and one RBI.
Baker wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Shelby Weigel, who went 1-for-4 with two runs.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Norwell's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They fell just short of Columbia City by a score of 4-3.
Like South Adams, Norwell also got a great game from a two-way player: Kayla Watkins. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing six innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. Watkins was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.
Norwell's loss dropped their record down to 14-8. As for South Adams, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 18-4.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. South Adams has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .446. However, it's not like Norwell struggles in that department as they've averaged .458. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went South Adams' way against Norwell in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as South Adams made off with a 17-10 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Starfires since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
