The Wiscasset Wolverines will head out to face off against the Buckfield Bucks at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Wiscasset has given up an average of 16.8 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Wiscasset is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 33 runs last Tuesday, they were much more limited against Carrabec on Wednesday. They came up short against the Cobras, falling 18-1. The Wolverines haven't had much luck with the Cobras recently, as the team has come up short the last eight times they've met.
Meanwhile, Buckfield entered their tilt with Old Orchard Beach on Tuesday with 11 consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with 12. They never let the Seagulls get on the board and left with a 25-0 victory. The Bucks' pitching crew has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a run in their last three matches.
Carmen Crockett made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with two RBI and one run. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Chloee Bennett was a standout: she went 3-for-6 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Brittany Carrier, who got on base in all six of her plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and two RBI.
Buckfield always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .660. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Buckfield pushed their record up to 12-1 with the win, which was their seventh straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.1 runs over those games. As for Wiscasset, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-9.
Wiscasset suffered a grim 21-1 defeat to Buckfield in their previous matchup back in April of 2023. Can the Wolverines avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
