Even though the Ponderosa Bruins scored an imposing 58 points on Saturday, the Antelope Titans still came out on top. Antelope rang in the new year with a 68-58 win over Ponderosa. The win made it back-to-back wins for Antelope.
Antelope found their leader in underclassman SirMister Harriel, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 15 rebounds. Harriel set a new season high mark in steals with three. Another player making a difference was Malichai Brown, who scored ten points.
When it comes to explaining why Ponderosa lost, one person who can't be blamed is Keenan Patterson. Despite the final result, he scored 34 points along with eight rebounds. The game was Patterson's ninth in a row with at least ten points. Travis Bays was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with six rebounds and three blocks.
Even though they lost, Ponderosa were working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Antelope only racked up 19 assists.
Antelope now has a winning record of 9-8. As for Ponderosa, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-8.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Antelope will take on Yuba City at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Yuba City focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Friday. As for Ponderosa, they will be playing at home against Placer at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Placer presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Ponderosa in California (Placer is ranked 97th, while Ponderosa is ranked 311th).
