Cardinal Hayes took a 79-61 bruising from Archbishop Stepinac on Friday. While losing is never fun, Cardinal Hayes can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 41st, while Archbishop Stepinac is ranked first).
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Archbishop Stepinac to victory, but perhaps none more so than Boogie Fland, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 14 rebounds. Fland is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played. Braylan Ritvo was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds.
Cardinal Hayes' loss dropped their record down to 8-8. As for Archbishop Stepinac, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 14-3.
Cardinal Hayes will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Monsignor Scanlan at 4:00 p.m. Monsignor Scanlan is no doubt hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. As for Archbishop Stepinac, they will head out on the road to challenge Mt. St. Michael Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mt. St. Michael Academy is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
