Mesa is 0-10 against Mountain View since April of 2019 but things could change on Thursday. Mesa will square off against Mountain View at 3:45 p.m. Mesa has given up an average of 14.2 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Mesa is headed into Thursday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Monday. They lost 18-2 to Boulder Creek.
Leah Alcala was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooklyn Isom, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mountain View). They never let Skyline get on the board and left with a 16-0 victory on Tuesday. Considering the Toros have won five contests by more than seven runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Jaelynn Fike looked comfortable as she struck out six batters over 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kylynn Sylvester, who scored four runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Keelie Goodman also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen bases of the season.
Mountain View hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in four consecutive matchups.
Mountain View's record is now 9-6. As for Mesa, their loss dropped their record down to 1-5.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Mesa hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Mountain View struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.9 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Mesa might still be hurting after the 18-5 defeat they got from Mountain View in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can Mesa avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
