The Wayland Wildcats will square off against the Coopersville Broncos at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
Wayland is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Berrien Springs just ended the team's five-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell 9-5 to the Shamrocks.
Wayland got a good showing from Gerrit VanLonkhuyzen, who tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the first time VanLonkhuyzen hasn't allowed a single earned run over his last four matches.
On the hitting side, Bredan Byrne made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI. Logan Byrne also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Coopersville, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They skirted past Kenowa Hills 5-3.
Mason Wynsma tossed a big game, tossing six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Beau Harris was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted over his last ten contests. The team also got some help courtesy of Trenton Kloosterhouse, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
Coopersville pushed their record up to 16-2-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 3.75 runs across that stretch. As for Wayland, their loss dropped their record down to 11-10.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Wayland has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Coopersville struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Wayland suffered a grim 14-4 defeat to Coopersville in their previous meeting back in March of 2021. Will the Wildcats have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
