Baseball Recap: Rincon/University Comes Up Short

If Rincon/University was riding high fresh off their 9-1 takedown of South Mountain last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Rincon/University Rangers came up short against the Desert View Jaguars on Wednesday, falling 17-6. The Rangers were not able to make up for their loss to the Jaguars from their previous meeting back in March of 2024.

Thomas Montgomery made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in RBI. Agathon Schwartz was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

Even though they lost, Rincon/University hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in three consecutive matchups.

Rincon/University has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season. Desert View has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rincon/University will venture away from home to challenge Tanque Verde at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Tanque Verde has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed eight runs per game on average), something Rincon/University will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Desert View, they are taking a road trip to square off against Catalina Foothills at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
