The Hawley Bearcats will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against the Stratford Elks at 7:00 p.m. on December 1st. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Hawley had already proven themselves in the regular season, and didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They blew past Sonora 31-8.
It was another big night for Keagan Ables, who rushed for 76 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 232 yards and a touchdown while picking up 11.0 yards per attempt. The team also got some help courtesy of Diontay Ramon, who picked up 115 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Stratford put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They took their game on the road with ease, bagging a 53-16 victory over New Deal. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 39-9.
Bryce Braden was his usual excellent self, rushing for 143 yards and three touchdowns on only 15 carries, while also throwing for 82 yards and a touchdown. Another player making a difference was Josue Licon, who rushed for 84 yards and two touchdowns on only eight carries.
The last time Hawley lost on the road was back back in August. Having now won five straight away contests, they've pushed their record up to 11-2. As for Stratford, their win bumped their record up to 13-0.
Hawley took a serious blow against Stratford when the teams last played back in November of 2017, falling 58-12. Thankfully for Hawley, Pedro Ortega (who rushed for 154 yards and three touchdowns on only nine carries) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
