Thornton Academy has gone 9-1 against Deering recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Trojans will take on the Rams at 4:30 p.m. Thornton Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.
Thornton Academy is headed into the matchup with an undefeated record on the line, something Falmouth almost spoiled on Monday. The Trojans came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 2-1 W against the Navigators. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Trojans have posted since May 16, 2024.
Ben Indorf looked comfortable as he pitched 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Cam Cyr, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high.
Thornton Academy hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Falmouth struck out nine times.
Biddeford hit Deering with a four-run fifth inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Rams fell 6-2 to the Tigers. The Rams have struggled against the Tigers recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost meeting.
Finn Ridge made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That hit was his first of the season.
Deering's defeat dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Thornton Academy, their record now sits at 5-0-1.
Deering's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Thornton Academy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .348. It's a different story for Deering, though, as they've only averaged .176. Will they be able to contain Thornton Academy's hitters?
Thornton Academy beat Deering 6-3 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trojans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
