Clairton is 0-8 against Sewickley Academy since April of 2017 but things could change on Monday. The Bears will be playing at home against Sewickley Academy at 4:00 p.m. Clairton has given up an average of 15.7 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Clairton is headed into Monday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their ninth straight game on Wednesday. They lost 18-5 to Bishop Canevin.
Adonte Wiggins made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those runs were his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Quintin Thompson, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Sewickley Academy can bid farewell to their four-game losing streak thanks to their game on Tuesday. They blew past Hillel Academy 12-2.
Nolan Donnelly made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in May of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Billy Pietragallo was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. He has become a key player for Sewickley Academy: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 0-8 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Charlie Scally, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Sewickley Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .595. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hillel Academy only posted an OBP of .200.
The victory was their first at home , bumping their record up to 2-9. As for Clairton, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-9.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Clairton has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Sewickley Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Clairton might still be hurting after the 19-2 loss they got from Sewickley Academy in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Bears avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
