King's Academy took care of business in their home opener (barely) on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out the Fremont Firebirds 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Knights have posted since September 5, 2024.
King's Academy had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first two sets, they turned around to win the next three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 22-25, 21-25, 25-18, 25-19, 15-9.
Several Firebirds players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Natalie Escalera, who had 37 kills, 18 digs, and two aces. Escalera has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more kills the last 16 times she's played. Ella Ahn was another key player, getting 23 kills and eight digs.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. King's Academy is packing up and heading out for their first away game of the season: they will challenge University Prep Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Fremont, they will square off against Prospect at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
