It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact the Covington Academy Bulldogs can now relate to. They fell just short of the Cougars by a score of 75-73. Covington Academy's loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.
Lafayette Christian's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Bruno Tellez, who scored 22 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. Tellez hasn't dropped below 16 points for 17 straight games. Joshua Zapata was another key contributor, scoring 24 points.
Covington Academy's loss dropped their record down to 9-6. As for Lafayette Christian, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season.
Covington Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Lafayette Christian will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against Trinity Christian School of Griffin at 7:30 p.m. on February 8th. One thing working in Lafayette Christian's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last 14 games.
