Baseball Recap: Sudan Wins Going Away Against Petersburg

While Sudan put up plenty of runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Petersburg. The Sudan Hornets blew past the Petersburg Buffaloes 18-0. The Hornets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matches by 12 runs or more this season.

Caleb Groetken made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Furthermore, he didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in March of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs, six RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-3. Those six RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Kincaid Boehning was incredible, going 1-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Aybran Granados, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Sudan always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .750. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Petersburg only posted an OBP of .222.

Sudan pushed their record up to 7-3 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Petersburg, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-4.

Sudan will have a chance to go back-to-back against Petersburg: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
