Goshen Central is 2-8 against Warwick since May of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Gladiators will welcome the Wildcats at 4:15 p.m. Goshen Central is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.
Goshen Central was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against Washingtonville on Thursday. The Gladiators were the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over the Wizards. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Gladiators considering their one-run performance the match before.
Stephen Kovacs was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. Kovacs was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs and six RBI while going 2-for-3. Those two home runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Noel Irizarry, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. He has become a key player for Goshen Central: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-4-1 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Marc Smith, who got on base in both of his plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
Goshen Central lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Warwick came up short against Minisink Valley on Wednesday and fell 9-6. The Wildcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Jack Gobinski made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Michael Molinelli, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases.
Goshen Central's victory bumped their record up to 7-4-1. As for Warwick, their loss dropped their record down to 5-9.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Goshen Central has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Warwick struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.4 strikeouts.
