Roswell is 0-10 against Carlsbad since April of 2023 but things could change on Tuesday. The Coyotes will challenge the Cavemen/Cavegirls at 5:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
On Friday, Roswell came up short against Hobbs and fell 18-13.
Bella Ornelas was cooking despite her team's loss, firing off two home runs, seven RBI, and four runs while going 4-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Jazlynn Horton, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and one double.
Meanwhile, Carlsbad entered their tilt with Clovis on Friday with nine consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with ten. They were the clear victors by a 26-3 margin over the Wildcats. The Cavemen/Cavegirls' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Aubrey Hernandez made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Carlsbad got a massive performance out of Allyson Madrid, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, four runs, and five RBI. Those four runs gave Madrid a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Faith Rivera, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with five runs, four RBI, and two doubles.
Carlsbad hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in eight consecutive matches.
Carlsbad pushed their record up to 16-6 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.2 runs over those games. As for Roswell, their loss dropped their record down to 8-14.
Both Roswell and Carlsbad just can't seem to miss. The Coyotes have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.6 hits per game. However, it's not like Carlsbad struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Roswell might still be hurting after the 17-4 defeat they got from Carlsbad when the teams last played last Thursday. Can the Coyotes avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
