After flying high against the Warner Christian Academy Eagles last Friday, the Crescent City Raiders came back down to earth. Crescent City took a serious blow against St. Joseph Academy on Tuesday, falling 74-31. While losing is never fun, Crescent City can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 365th, while St. Joseph Academy is ranked 179th).
When it comes to explaining why Crescent City lost, one person who can't be blamed is Kirabella Williams. Despite the final result, she scored 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyra Hankins, who scored eight points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead St. Joseph Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kelly Cramer, who scored 26 points along with three steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which Cramer has scored at least a third of St. Joseph Academy's points. Another player making a difference was Taninah Manning, who scored 16 points along with nine steals.
Crescent City's loss dropped their record down to 6-3. As for St. Joseph Academy, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 14-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Crescent City won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Father Lopez at 6:00 p.m. on January 24th. Father Lopez will be looking to keep their four-game home win streak alive. As for St. Joseph Academy, they will head out on the road to square off against Trinity Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
