St. Mary's is on a nine-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Swink is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The St. Mary's Pirates will be home for the holidays to greet the Swink Lions at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. St. Mary's knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matchups -- so hopefully Swink likes a good challenge.
St. Mary's has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three contests by 24 points or more this season. They were the clear victor by a 55-31 margin over Manitou Springs. Given St. Mary's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 45th, while Manitou Springs is ranked 175th), the result last Saturday wasn't entirely unexpected.
St. Mary's got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Maeve Salveson out in front who scored 21 points along with four steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which Salveson has scored at least 25% of St. Mary's points. Jaela Pedro was another key contributor, scoring 15 points.
Meanwhile, Swink's game on Saturday was all tied up 12-12 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They pulled ahead with a 29-28 photo finish over Kim/Branson.
Swink can attribute much of their success to Hunter Wallace, who scored ten points, and Briana McElroy, who scored 13 points. The match was Wallace's fifth in a row with at least ten points.
St. Mary's victory bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Swink, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: St. Mary's hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 62.4 points per game. It's a different story for Swink, though, as they've been averaging only 33.4 points per game. The only thing between St. Mary's and another offensive beatdown is Swink.
