Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for The Highland Scots, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They fell just short of Exeter by a score of 38-35. The match was a 14-14 toss-up at halftime, but Highland was just barely outscored by Exeter in the second.
Highland's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Johnny Brucker, who picked up 150 receiving yards and a touchdown. Raul Palomino also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Exeter can attribute much of their success to Aidan Robertson, who picked up 177 receiving yards and four touchdowns. Jacob Molina was another key contributor, throwing for 233 yards and four touchdowns.
Highland's loss was their fourth straight on the road , which bumped their record down to 3-8. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 9-2 Kennedy and 6-5 Bakersfield (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 65.9% over those games). As for Exeter, their win bumped their record up to 10-1.
Highland does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Exeter will be playing at home against Roosevelt at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Roosevelt is coming into the game hot, having won their last five games.
