The Laguna Acoma Hawks will square off against the Grants Pirates at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. Laguna Acoma is coming into the match hot, having won their last four games.
Laguna Acoma barely beat Tohatchi the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Hawks put the hurt on the Cougars with a sharp 10-1 win on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Hawks, who have now won six games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Brianna Filmer made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two triples, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Laguna Acoma got a big performance out of Tavani Scott, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and one double. Ciandra Lucero was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Laguna Acoma was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .615. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .516 or higher in nine consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, it was close, but on Saturday Grants sidestepped Rehoboth Christian for a 7-5 victory. The win continues a trend for the Pirates in their matchups with the Lynx: they've now won three in a row.
Alynn Othole spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Delilah Martinez, who scored three runs while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Aubrhyanna Garcia, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one run.
Laguna Acoma's victory was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-3. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Grants, their victory bumped their record up to 6-8.
Grants' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Laguna Acoma has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 14 hits per game. It's a different story for Grants, though, as they've been averaging 10.1 hits. Given Laguna Acoma's sizable advantage in that area, the Pirates will need to find a way to close that gap.
