After having lost a blowout in their previous game against LaSalle, Northwood was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Plainview Hornets with a sharp 16-6 win. The Gators might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by six runs or more this season.
Kelsey Bennett made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off nine hits. Those hits marked the first that she allowed this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in RBI.
In other batting news, Jalen Ambrose was a standout: she scored three runs and stole Two bases. while going 5-for-5. Those five hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Micheala Bolden, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple.
Northwood now has a winning record of 7-6. As for Plainview, they are on an eight-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Northwood will challenge Montgomery at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Plainview, they are taking a road trip to face off against Glenmora at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
