After a string of six wins, the Chadron Cardinals's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a 59-51 hit to the loss column at the hands of Gering. Chadron was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bulldogs apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.
When it comes to explaining why Chadron lost, one person who can't be blamed is Taverra Sayaloune. Despite the final result, she scored 22 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Sayaloune has scored all season. Jaleigh Mccartney was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with three steals.
Neveah Hrasky had a dynamite game for Gering, scoring 22 points along with two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacey Cochran, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds.
Chadron's loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-6. As for Gering, their victory ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-10.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Chadron is on the road again on Saturday and plays the Mustangs at 2:00 p.m. on January 20th. Hopefully Gordon-Rushville focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Friday. As for Gering, they will head out on the road to take on the Bearcats at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.
