The win streak is also the nation's longest active in high school basketball. The Chargers' last loss came against Aliquippa on Jan. 7, 2020.
Our Lady of Sacred Heart (28-0) was impressive throughout the wire-to-wire win, getting off to an 11-0 start before leading 23-17 after the first quarter, 39-32 at halftime and 63-42 heading into the fourth quarter.
Jake Dimichele led the way with a team-high 25 points and 11 rebounds in the win. The senior guard averaged 32 points per game this season and surpassed 1994 Duquesne graduate Kevin Price for second on the all-time WPIAL career scoring list with 2,642 points.
It was the third consecutive meeting in the Class 2A state title game between the two programs. Our Lady of Sacred Heart defeated Constitution 62-49 last season while Constitution won 81-71 in 2018. There were no championships in 2019 due to COVID-19.
Perhaps even more impressive, Friday's win also marked the 52nd consecutive victory by double figures for the Chargers. They have outscored opponents by over 30 points per contest this season.
Constitution (22-9) was led by a game-high 29 points from senior
Jacob Beccles in the loss.
