Baseball Recap: Brevard HEAT Has No Trouble Against Cocoa

Brevard HEAT's game last Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 14-4 margin over the Cocoa Tigers. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 22-8 back in March.

Anthony Kusky made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brycen Harmon, who scored three runs and stole five bases while going 2-for-4. Those five stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Charlie Still was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Brevard HEAT always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .528. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in five consecutive matches.

Brevard HEAT's win bumped their record up to 4-11. As for Cocoa, they are on a 28-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-14.

Looking ahead, Brevard HEAT will be taking part in a tournament against The Classical Academy of Sarasota at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Patriots have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 15 runs per game on average), something the Firehawks will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Cocoa, they will head out on the road to challenge Evans at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Trojans have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.25 runs per game on average), something the Tigers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
