Baseball Recap: Estill County Victorious

The Estill County Engineers beat the Lewis County Lions 5-2 on Thursday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Engineers.

Jax Niece looked comfortable as he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kooper Powell, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Bryce Drake, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run.

Estill County hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lewis County struck out seven times.

Estill County's record now sits at 8-5. As for Lewis County, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-12 record this season.

Estill County will be taking part in a tournament against Cooper at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Lewis County, they will welcome Raceland at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
