While losing is never fun, Poplar Springs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 682nd in Florida, while Rehobeth is ranked 269th in Alabama).
The losing side was boosted by James Gilmore, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Baron Hall, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds.
Holmes County suffered their closest defeat yet this season on Monday. They fell just short of Bethlehem by a score of 45-43. Holmes County has struggled against Bethlehem recently, as their match on Monday was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
Poplar Springs has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost 12 of their last 13 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-15 record this season. As for Holmes County, they now have a losing record at 9-10.
Everything went Poplar Springs' way against Holmes County when the teams last played back in January of 2023 as Poplar Springs made off with a 74-50 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Poplar Springs since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
