Southside is 9-1 against Etowah since March of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Panthers will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against the Blue Devils at 4:30 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Southside was handed a six-run loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Saturday. They skirted past T.R. Miller 8-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Panthers have posted since March 11, 2025.
Paxton Huddleston spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and five unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up eight Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Ilana Stewart, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2025. Lauren Mckee was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two runs.
Meanwhile, Etowah put another one in the bag on Monday to keep their perfect season alive. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 4-3 W against Cherokee County. Those four runs were actually the fewest the Blue Devils have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.
Etowah also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Kylee Wilder gave up three earned runs on eight hits. Wilder has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Blakeleigh Perry and Bella Owen did most of the damage at the plate: Perry went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI, while Owen went a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one run. That home run was Perry's first of the season.
Southside's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Etowah, their victory bumped their record up to 6-0.
Southside got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in March of 2025 against Etowah by a conclusive 16-3 score. Do the Panthers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Blue Devils turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
