The Kentlake Falcons will square off against the Federal Way Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Having struggled with three losses in a row, Kentlake turned things around against Jefferson on Monday. They walked away with a 12-8 win over the Raiders. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Falcons' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
The team relied heavily on Josie Pedeferri, who went 3-for-5 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. The team also got some help courtesy of Hi'Ilei Gomes, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Kentlake kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Federal Way came out on top against Beamer on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive 12-run first inning. The Eagles put the hurt on the Titans with a sharp 18-6 victory. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Titans recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.
Eva Adriano made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off only one hit. Those nine strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That stolen base was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Samantha Jolley was incredible, going 4-for-5 with five RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Sifaga Salu, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run.
Federal Way's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-7. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 19.0 runs over those games. As for Kentlake, their victory bumped their record up to 5-3.
Federal Way's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Wednesday. Kentlake has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Federal Way, though, as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.8 strikeouts. Will Kentlake keep running through batters, or will the Eagles buck the trend?
Kentlake took their win against Federal Way in their previous matchup back in March by a conclusive 19-7 score. Do the Falcons have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
