Camden County and South Effingham are an even 3-3 against one another since January of 2015, but not for long. The Camden County Wildcats will be home for the holidays to greet the South Effingham Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Camden County will be coming into the contest with an undefeated record on the line.
Camden County has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six matches by 22 points or more this season. They claimed a resounding 71-21 win over First Coast on the road. With Camden County ahead 41-13 at the half, the match was all but over already.
It was another big night for Akeelah Bryan, who scored 18 points along with seven steals and five rebounds. Those 18 points set a new season-high mark for she. Mahliya Reeder was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with seven steals and five rebounds.
Meanwhile, South Effingham was able to grind out a solid victory over Johnson on Tuesday, taking the game 57-47. That 57-47 margin sets a new team best for South Effingham this season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead South Effingham to victory, but perhaps none more so than Tyra Guyton, who scored 17 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. That's the first time this season that Guyton scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Kailyn Chapman, who scored 17 points along with five assists and three steals.
Camden County's victory bumped their record up to 9-0. As for South Effingham, their win ended a four-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 3-6.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Camden County have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 32.2 rebounds per game. It's a different story for South Effingham, though, as they've been averaging only 29.8 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
