Hitchcock extended their losing streak to 15 on Friday, dropping them down to 5-17. They lost 13-0 to the East Bernard Brahmas. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Brahmas this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 16-1 back in March.
Addison Harwell spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and ten unearned) runs on six hits and racked up eight Ks.
At the plate, Hitchcock saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gabby Torres, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base. That stolen base was Torres' first of the season. Another was L Batstle, who got on base in two of her three plate appearances with two stolen bases.
As for East Bernard, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 14-11-2. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games.
On East Bernard's side, Haley Preisler made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 15 over six innings pitched. Preisler has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three runs and one triple.
In other batting news, Kerianne Bosse was incredible, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Claire Viktorin was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs.
We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Hitchcock will square off against rival Boling at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, East Bernard is set to take on their familiar foe Van Vleck at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Brahmas 4, the Leopards 3.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
