The Salida Spartans struggled with offensive rebounds on Saturday (the Lamar Thunder had nine more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Salida fell 37-29 to Lamar. Salida has struggled against Lamar recently, as their matchup on Saturday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Salida's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Juliana Anch, who scored 11 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Braeden Johnson, who scored four points along with three steals.
Lamar was led to victory by Josylynn Rodriguez and Brooklyn Robbins. Rodriguez scored eight points along with 15 rebounds, while Robbins scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and four steals. Robbins hasn't dropped below two steals for five straight games. Another player making a difference was Chloe Weber, who scored seven points.
Salida's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 9-9. As for Lamar, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 11-9.
Salida will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Buena Vista at 5:30 p.m. on February 13th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Colorado (Salida is ranked 163rd, while Buena Vista is ranked 148th). As for Lamar, they will be playing at home against Rocky Ford at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
