The Geneseo Maple Leafs are taking a road trip to face off against the Moline Maroons at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Geneseo's pitching crew has only allowed 4.1 runs per game this season, so Moline's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Geneseo had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the nine-run drubbing they dealt Galesburg on Tuesday. The Maple Leafs' pitchers stepped up to hand the Silver Streaks a 9-0 shutout. The Maple Leafs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by six runs or more this season.
Kendyl Wassenhove and Addison Snell made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Wassenhove tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Snell didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Wassenhove has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. At the plate, Wassenhove went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI, while Snell went 2-for-4 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Megan Hursman was excellent, going 2-for-3 with three RBI. Another player making a difference was Penny Kline, who went 3-for-4 with two runs.
Meanwhile, Moline was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They lost 16-4 to Rockridge.
Moline saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Payton Vanzuiden, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one double. That double was Vanzuiden's first of the season.
Geneseo's win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 8-6-1. As for Moline, their loss dropped their record down to 3-8.
Moline's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Geneseo hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .362. It's a different story for Moline, though, as they've only averaged .239. Will they be able to contain Geneseo's hitters?
Everything went Geneseo's way against Moline in their previous matchup back in May of 2025, as Geneseo made off with a 12-2 victory. Will the Maple Leafs repeat their success, or do the Maroons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
