Basketball Recap: Kirby Ransom's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Franklinton over Wakefield

Franklinton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They took a 73-64 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wakefield Wolverines. Even though they lost, the Red Rams' still made a splash on offense and bumped their average scoring up to 50.2 points per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).

Franklinton lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Kirby Ransom, who went 6 of 12 on his way to 22 points and six boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Zymir Lipscomb, who went 5 of 11 on his way to 14 points and four steals.

Even though they lost, Franklinton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in three consecutive matches.

Wakefield's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ethan Wisler, who posted 14 points in addition to six rebounds and five assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Avery Hicks, who went 5 of 7 on his way to 14 points.

Franklinton's loss dropped their record down to 6-8. As for Wakefield, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-6.

Franklinton will host Rocky Mount at 7:30 p.m. on January 17th. Franklinton has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Wakefield, they will venture away from home to square off against Rolesville at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. Wakefield is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.2 points per game this season.
