The Tucker Tigers came tearing into Saturday's contest with eight straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They escaped with a win against Langston Hughes by the margin of a single free throw, 77-76. The score was all tied up 0-0 at the break, but Tucker was the better team in the second half.
Despite the loss, Langston Hughes still got an impressive performance from Brentis Schaeffer, who scored 34 points along with five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Schaeffer has scored all season. Jaron LeMelle was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds.
Tucker's win bumped their record up to 13-4. As for Langston Hughes, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-5.
Tucker's road trip will continue as they head out to face McIntosh at 12:30 p.m. on January 15th. McIntosh will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Georgia Rankings (they are ranked 240th, while Tucker is ranked 18th). As for Langston Hughes, they will head out on the road to take on Newnan at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
