The Fuquay - Varina Bengals fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back wins it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They escaped with a win on Tuesday against Cleveland by the margin of a single free throw, 42-41. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Fuquay - Varina also won the last time the pair played back in February.
Drew Willis continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 12 points along with five rebounds and three blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Nate George, who scored five points.
Cleveland lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Talan Brown, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds and four blocks. Another player making a difference was Rodney Poston, who scored 12 points.
Even though they lost, Cleveland were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Fuquay - Varina has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 3-7 record this season. As for Cleveland, their loss was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 4-5.
Fuquay - Varina will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Southeast Raleigh at 6:30 p.m. on January 5, 2024. One thing working in Southeast Raleigh's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last five matchups. Cleveland will finish 2023 at home by hosting Nash Central at 8:30 p.m. on December 27th. Nash Central is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
