Caleb Clutteur was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over six innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Milford is 6-3 when he allows at most one walk, but 9-12 otherwise. Clutteur was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Milford let Beau Wright and Aiden Frerichs run wild. Wright went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Frerichs went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one run. Milford is 5-1 when Wright posts two or more stolen bases, but 10-14 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Gage Vogel, who went 2-for-3 with one run.
Milford was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, St. Thomas More was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of LeRoy. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Sabers couldn't push the score so high this time.
Milford pushed their record up to 15-15 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.67 runs across that stretch. As for St. Thomas More, their loss dropped their record down to 7-20.
Milford came up short against St. Thomas More in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, falling 9-4. Can the Bearcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
