If the Lemon Bay Manta Rays were riding high off their 70-48 takedown of the Naples Golden Eagles last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Lemon Bay took a 72-61 hit to the loss column at the hands of Riverview Sarasota on Wednesday. While losing is never fun, Lemon Bay can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 215th, while Riverview Sarasota is ranked 27th).
Myah Dickerson and Maya Collins certainly did their best on Wednesday to try and avoid the loss. Dickerson dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds, while Collins scored 19 points along with nine steals and six assists. Collins is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Mackenzie Long, who scored ten points along with seven assists and five rebounds.
Ava Sims was her usual excellent self, scoring 27 points along with nine rebounds and two steals for Riverview Sarasota. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Sims has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Susan Lowther, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Lemon Bay's loss dropped their record down to 8-10. As for Riverview Sarasota, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 16-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lemon Bay will take on North Port at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. North Port is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. As for Riverview Sarasota, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against Cardinal Mooney at 7:00 p.m.
