The First Academy Eagles had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They enjoyed a cozy 67-51 victory over Taylor on Thursday. With that win, First Academy brought their scoring average up to 51.3 points per game.
It was another big night for Amari Smith, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 15 rebounds. Smith is absolutely dominating the block category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Rhett Walsh was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Taylor's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Anthony Miler, who scored 11 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ursi Castro, who scored eight points.
First Academy's win bumped their record up to 4-7. As for Taylor, their loss was their fourth straight at home, which bumped their record down to 4-9.
First Academy won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Tavares at 7:00 p.m. on January 12th. Tavares is coming into the contest on a five-game losing streak. As for Taylor, they will head out on the road to square off against Ocala Christian at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Florida (Ocala Christian is ranked 765th, while Taylor is ranked 748th).
