If the Coolidge Bears were riding high off their 70-12 takedown of the American Leadership Academy - Anthem South Titans last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Coolidge took a hard 67-52 fall against Gilbert Christian on Wednesday. Coolidge was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Gilbert Christian apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
Despite the loss, Coolidge still got an impressive performance from Tory Gholston, who scored 30 points along with seven rebounds and five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Gholston has scored all season. Isaiah Slaughter was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with six rebounds.
It was another big night for Keon Talgo, who scored 27 points along with two steals for Gilbert Christian. Talgo has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last five times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Lopemi. Omole, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 14 rebounds.
Coolidge's loss dropped their record down to 14-5. As for Gilbert Christian, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests, which somehow isn't as good as their 13-4 record this season.
Coolidge will be playing at home against Globe at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Globe focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 last Monday. Gilbert Christian won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Florence at 7:00 p.m. on January 18th. Hopefully Florence focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 last Monday.
