The Canterbury Crusaders's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their seventh straight defeat. They took a serious blow against Northeast, falling 82-55. While losing is never fun, Canterbury can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 689th, while the Vikings are ranked 285th).
Canterbury's loss came despite strong showings from Kayden Calhoun and Lou Donnelly. Calhoun scored 35 points, while Donnelly scored 20 points along with five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Calhoun has scored all season.
Northeast's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jamaries Conyers, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 12 rebounds. Conyers hasn't dropped below nine rebounds for seven straight games. Another player making a difference was Luis Ruiz, who dropped a triple-double on 13 points, 13 rebounds, and ten assists.
Canterbury has not been sharp recently as the team's lost 13 of their last 14 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-18 record this season. As for Northeast, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-10.
Canterbury will head out on the road to take on the BlueJackets at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The timing is sure in Admiral Farragut's favor as the team sits on three straight wins at home while the Crusaders have been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road. As for Northeast, they will take on the Tornadoes at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Clearwater focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up seven on Wednesday.
