Upper Perkiomen is preparing for their first conference matchup of the season on Thursday. They will head out on the road to square off against the Norristown Eagles at 4:00 p.m. Upper Perkiomen's pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so Norristown's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Upper Perkiomen's last matchup with Fleetwood could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's match on Monday. Upper Perkiomen came up short against Fleetwood, falling 11-1. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Indians, who until this game were averaging four runs allowed.
Upper Perkiomen got a good showing from Andrew Nagata, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
At the plate, Upper Perkiomen saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jacob Creneti, who scored a run while going 1-for-1. Stephen Mumford also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Meanwhile, Norristown got the win against Academy Park on Tuesday by a conclusive 15-1. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Knights recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Gavin Walker was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, Norristown got a massive performance out of Nate Hagner, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-2. Those two runs gave Hagner a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Matt Leary, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-1.
Norristown now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Upper Perkiomen, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 3-1.
Upper Perkiomen came out on top in a nail-biter against Norristown when the teams last played back in May of 2024, sneaking past 4-2. Does Upper Perkiomen have another victory up their sleeve, or will Norristown turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
