The Capitan Tigers will square off against the Mescalero Apache Chiefs at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Capitan is looking for their season's first win.
Capitan is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They lost 32-18 to Lordsburg on Thursday. Even if the Tigers couldn't come away with the victory, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.
Colton Wales led a balanced group of hitters, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with four runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Greg Castro, who went 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs.
Meanwhile, Mescalero Apache came up short against Mesilla Valley Christian School on Saturday, falling 15-3. The Chiefs haven't had much luck with the SonBlazers recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Mescalero Apache saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Matthew Damon, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. Another was Ricardo Yuzos, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Mescalero Apache's loss dropped their record down to 4-11. As for Capitan, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-10.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Capitan has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Mescalero Apache struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Capitan couldn't quite finish off Mescalero Apache in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 and fell 7-5. Can the Tigers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
