Softball Recap: Northside Wins Going Away Against Senn

Northside had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 11-run drubbing they dealt Senn on Thursday. The Mustangs blew past the Bulldogs 13-2. The Mustangs' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Ella Breving made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. What's more, she posted three strikeouts, the most she's had since back in May of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jilliyn Yung, who fired off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs while going 2-for-3. Payton Phoxay also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Northside always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The win got Northside back to even at 2-2. As for Senn, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 4-1.

Looking ahead, Northside will welcome Lincoln Park at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Senn, they will venture away from home to challenge Lake View at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Wildcats have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.5 runs per game on average), something the Bulldogs will no doubt try to take advantage of.
