Even though the Escondido Cougars have not done well against the San Marcos Knights recently (they were 0-6 in their previous six matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. Escondido had just enough and edged San Marcos out 2-1. The result kept Escondido happy, as they haven't lost a game since January 19th.
They were led to victory by the tag-team duo of
Carlos Sorto and
Elias Urbina, who scored both of Escondido's goals. The pair have combined for a total of seven so far this season.
Escondido is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-7-5 record this season. As for San Marcos, they dropped their record down to 8-9-2 with that loss, which was their third straight on the road.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Escondido has the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Valley Center at 6:00 p.m. on February 9th. Escondido's last five games have been decided by no more than a goal, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for San Marcos, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Mt. Carmel at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
